- Sheriff Hardy has served as a member of the Pelham Board of Selectmen and is a former State Representative.
- He has been in law enforcement for 24 years.
- Sheriff James A. Hardy, the 28th Sheriff of Hillsborough County, as elected to hi first term in 2002 and took office in January 2003, upon the retirement of Sheriff Walter A. Morse.
- Sheriff Hardy commands a force of Deputies located in the most populated county in New Hampshire, including Manchester and Nashua.
